Should I use a mental stop loss or an actual order?

Always use actual stop loss orders. Mental stops are almost always moved when price approaches them — human nature. An actual order cannot be emotionally overridden.

The solution to premature stop outs is better stop placement (wider, beyond key levels) not removing stops. A trade without a hard stop is one catastrophic event away from an account-destroying loss.
