Not your keys, not your coins. Exchanges can be hacked (Mt. Gox, FTX). For amounts above what you can afford to lose, use a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor.

Rule of thumb: keep only what you are actively trading on the exchange. Long-term holdings should be in cold storage (hardware wallet). The setup is worth the small hassle.
