Holding Through the Weekend: Worth the Risk or Not?

Weekend gaps are one of the most polarizing topics in swing trading. Some traders refuse to hold any position through the weekend. Others consider it part of the game. **The case against holding weekends:** - Geopolitical events, economic data surprises, and black swans happen over weekends - Sunday open gaps can be 50–200 pips on some pairs - You can't react — markets are closed **The case for holding weekends:** - Most weekends are uneventful - Closing Friday and re-entering Monday means missing potential continuation - Weekend gap direction is often the week's dominant direction **My approach:** If I'm in profit and my stop is moved to breakeven or better, I'll hold through the weekend. If I'm still at full risk with the original stop, I close Friday afternoon. What's your weekend holding policy? Has a weekend gap ever significantly helped or hurt one of your swing trades?
