Asian Session Characteristics: How to Profit From Low-Volatility Hours

The Asian session (midnight–09:00 GMT) gets a bad reputation for being "slow" — but that's exactly what makes it useful for specific strategies. Here's what defines the Asian session: **1. Lower volatility, cleaner ranges.** Without European and US players in the market, prices often consolidate. Ideal for range traders. **2. JPY is king.** With Tokyo active, the yen is the most relevant currency. USD/JPY, EUR/JPY, AUD/JPY, and GBP/JPY all tend to have their largest moves during Tokyo hours. **3. Commodity currencies react.** AUD and NZD respond to Chinese overnight data (PMI, trade balance) and RBA/RBNZ commentary. **4. The Asian range sets up London.** The high and low of the Asian session are the most important levels for London traders. Breakouts from Asian ranges are some of the most consistent London setups. Best pairs for Asian session: USD/JPY, AUD/USD, NZD/USD, AUD/JPY. Are you currently trading the Asian session, and if so, what's your approach?
